The Confucius Institute Scholarship 2022-2023 provides a fully-funded scholarship for international students. The CIS scholarship covers tuition, lodging, medical insurance, and a monthly allowance to cover personal expenses.

Confucius Institute Scholarship 2023 Benefits

The Confucius Institute Scholarship includes:

  • Tuition and lodging (in a university residence in a room shared by another person).
  • Basic medical coverage.
  • A monthly allowance to cover personal expenses.
  • BTCSOL students and Chinese language and culture courses cost 2,500 Yuan each month (about 350 USD per month).
  • Students of MTCSOL receive 3,000 Yuan per Month (equivalent to approximately 420 USD/month).

Recent research has shown that scholarship recipients may choose to live outside the campus and reject accommodation at the university residence. The Confucius Institute provides 700 Yuan per month (in addition to the monthly allowance) to help with rental expenses.

For scholarships that last more than one year, the Confucius Institute reviews each beneficiary’s qualifications annually and demands outstanding results to renew the total funding. The Confucius Institute will not renew a scholarship if the student’s results are below the average. The Confucius Institute Scholarship: Categories and Duration

Scholarships to study the Chinese language or culture There are three types of scholarships:

  • A scholarship for an academic year is a total of 11 months that can begin in September (until the July of the following year) or March (until the January of the next year).
  • Scholarships for academic semesters: The scholarship lasts five months. You can choose to have the semester run from September to January (winter) or from March to July in summer.
  • Four-week student scholarships: Courses are offered during the winter holidays (December-January in China) or the summer holidays (July–August).

Scholarships for future Chinese teachers There are three options:

  • The scholarship to study the Master of Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language (MTCSOL) lasts for two academic years.
  • One academic year of Chinese language and culture scholarship, plus two years of MTCSOL. There are a total of 3 academic courses.
  • Scholarship to study Bachelor in Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language (BTCSOL). It is a four-year program.

The three CIS scholarships for Chinese language teachers typically start in September or March. These scholarships can only be applied for online. The system will allow you to choose, in order of priority, from 150 universities offering this scholarship across the country to two universities. Look at the universities that provide Confucius Institute scholarships. Follow the below steps to apply for a Confucius Institute Scholarship.

  1. Deadline for applications: Apply until May 1 (usually day 1) if you wish to apply for a scholarship in September and November 1 if your goal is to start in March.
  2. Delivery of applications: Students of Confucius Institute are eligible to apply for the scholarship. Contact the person in charge of the scholarships.     • You will need to submit all required documents, including certified copies. They won’t be returned. They will be sent by the Confucius Institutes in charge of scholarships to the headquarters of Hanban, the central offices of the Confucius Institute.   1. Result Date: The final results of scholarship students can be found on the official Page of the Confucius Institute Scholarships at either the beginning of July (if starting in September) or the beginning of January (if starting in March).
  2. Documents to be sent to process visa: All records required to process visa applications are sent via postal mail within 15 working days of publication. You may need to wait up to a month before you receive the letter.

Eligibility requirements for Confucius Institute Scholarship 2023

Below are the requirements and documents required to be eligible for Confucius Institute Scholarship.

  1. You must not be of Chinese nationality or in good health. To obtain a residence permit for China, you must prove your physical and mental health if you plan to study in China for more than six months. Once you have arrived at the destination university (it isn’t a requirement document during the application period), you will need to bring an original copy of the Chinese medical form or Foreigner Physical Exam Form.
  2. The applicants must be between 16 and 35 years old. If they can prove they are Chinese teachers, the scholarship will be extended for up to 45 years. Undergraduate scholarships are not available to applicants more senior than 20 years.
  3. A degree in the Chinese language is required (oral and written HSK, and sometimes BCT and oral BCT). The type of scholarship will dictate the requirements. You must have at least 180 points in the HSK3 written exam and at least 60 points in the HSK3 oral exam to be eligible for a scholarship to study Chinese language and culture. It has all the language requirements.   4. Minimum Qualification: For the MTCSOL scholarship, you will need to provide the diploma and academic record from your undergraduate studies. You must show proof of high school graduation to be eligible for the BTCSOL scholarship and the Chinese language courses. You will need to provide a certified translation of either the Chinese or English documentation if you don’t have it.
  5. A letter of recommendation is required for scholarship applicants interested in studying BTCSOL or Chinese. Two notes for MTCSOL scholarship applicants will be required. All letters must be signed and dated by the Confucius Institute in charge of your application for the scholarship.
  6. The MTCSOL scholarship will prefer applicants who can demonstrate that they are qualified to teach the Chinese Language after completing their master’s degree in China.
  7. You must not have previously studied in China for the four-week scholarship or one-semester scholarships.
