This Bright Futures scholarship programs are available in four different types of awards, and they are:

  • Florida Academic Scholarship (FAS)
  • Florida Medallion Scholarship (FMS)
  • Florida Gold Seal CAPE Scholarship (GSC)
  • and Florida Gold Seal Vocational Scholarship (GSV).

This Bright Futures scholarship program is an excellent opportunity for Florida residents to enable them to earn an entire ride to college.

Bright Futures Scholarship Requirements

Below is the list of requirements for bright futures scholarships, and the applicants must meet all of the listed needs to be eligible:

  • must Graduate with a standard high school diploma or any of its equivalent
  • Must be a Florida resident and a U.S. citizen or an eligible noncitizen, as determined by the applicants/student’s postsecondary institution.
  • Must Enroll as a degree- or certificate-seeking student at any Florida institution in 6 non-remedial semester credit hours at least.
  • Must have one parent at least that is a Florida resident and is; actively serving duty in the military or on a public service assignment away from Florida during the student’s last year of high school.
  • Non-Traditional Students (home-educated, GED, mid-year, out-of-state) can also apply for the scholarships.
  • For the Florida Academic Scholarship (FAS): one must Complete the 16 college-preparatory courses required/needed for admission to a state university and complete 100 service hours. They must Achieve the necessarily combined ACT, or a composite SAT score.
  • For the Florida Medallion Scholarship (FMS): one must Complete the 16 college-preparatory courses required /needed for admission to a state university and complete 75 service hours.
  • For the Florida Gold Seal Vocational Scholarship (GSV): one Must take three full credits at least in a single Career and Technical Education program and complete 30 service hours. They must also Achieve the required combined ACT or composite SAT score.
  • For the Florida Gold Seal CAPE Scholarship (GSC): The Applicants must earn at least a minimum of 5 postsecondary credit hours through CAPE industry certifications that articulate for college credit and complete at least 30 service hours.
  •  Minimum 5 Cumulative GPA (unrounded and unweighted) needed for the Florida Academic Scholars (FAS)
  •  Minimum 0 Cumulative GPA (unrounded and unweighted) needed for the Florida Medallion Scholars (FMS)
  • For the Florida Gold Seal Vocational Scholarship (GSV): The Minimum of 3.0 weighted GPA in the non-elective high school courses and also 3.5 unweighted GPA in the career education courses
  • The Students must maintain a 2.75 minimum cumulative GPA (unrounded and unweighted) for Gold Seal CAPE (GSC) scholarships.
  • Not have been convicted of a felony.

Bright Futures Scholarships Criteria

Below is the list of criteria for the bright futures scholarships:

One must Be a Florida resident and a U.S. Citizen or an eligible noncitizen. They must earn a diploma from a Florida high school or high school equivalent.

This diploma can be achieved from a public high school or certified private high school.

How to Apply for Bright Futures Scholarships

  • The Students must complete the Florida Financial Aid Application (FFAA) to OSFA through creating a student account.
  • TheApplicants must submit an official high school transcript; ACT/SAT scores, the documentation for OOS assignment, the Proof of Dependency, and the Documentation of Service Hours. An official transcript may be emailed to [email protected] (If the student’s high school can send secure electronic transcripts or if the high school contracts with a third-party transcript service).
  • TheApplicants must complete the FFAA no later than August 31 after their high school graduation or during their last year in high school.
  • The GED or Out-of-State Applicant may send in their documents via mail or upload them electronically to the Florida Department of Education,

The Difference Between FAS and FMS Bright Futures

The Florida Academic Scholars (FAS) receive an award to cover 100% of tuition and other applicable fees, while the Florida Medallion Scholars (FMS) receive an award to cover 75% of tuition and other applicable fees.

Each Bright Futures scholarships program has a different set of requirements, but there are few that they all share.
