How do I apply for a Work Visa (Z visa in China)?

This is a complete guideline to help you apply for a Z visa (work visa) in China.

(1) Passport

Original passport signed with at least six months remaining validity, blank visa pages, and a copy of the passport’s data and photo pages, if any.

(2) Application Form (FormV.2013) and Photo

One completed Visa Application Form, with a photo on glossy paper and glued to the form. (Your image must comply with the requirements).

(3) Proof that you are legally present or have a residence permit (applicable to citizens of other countries)

The original and photocopies of any valid visas or certificates of residence, employment, student status, or other valid documents of legal stay must be provided to the authorities in the country you are currently residing.

(4) Photocopy of Chinese passports/visas (applicable for foreign citizens who were Chinese citizens but have gained foreign citizenship).

You must provide a photocopy and the original Chinese passport if you apply for a Chinese visa. Suppose you have previously obtained Chinese permits and are applying for a Chinese Visa with a Renewing Foreign Passport. In that case, you will need to present a photocopy of your passport’s data and photo pages, if any, along with the previous Chinese visa page. If your name appears on your current passport differently than yours, an official name change document must be provided. )

(5) One or more of the following documents are available:

  • Chinese authorities issue Foreigners Employment Permit of the People’s Republic of China to foreigners. If your work period is less than 90 days, you must submit an Approval of Short-Term Employment For Foreigners Working in P.R. China. The Approval will not allow you to work in China if you have not applied for your visa before the date of the Approval’s commencement.
  • The State Bureau of Foreign Experts issues permits for foreign experts to work in China.
  • Register Certificate of Resident Representative Offices for enterprises from foreign countries (regions) issued in China by the Chinese industrial or commercial administration authorities.
  • A Chinese government approval document for commercial performances. If your performance period is less than 90 days, you must submit an Approval for Short-Term Employment for Foreigners in P.R. China. China. You must apply for your visa before the date of the Approval’s commencement.
  • China National Offshore Oil Corporation issued a Letter of Invitation to Foreigners for Offshore Petroleum Operations.

NOTE:

  1. All information in the application must be valid and accurate. False, misleading, or incomplete information could result in the denial of visa application or refusal to enter China.
  2. An invitation letter can be sent by fax, photocopy, or computer printout. The applicant may need to send an original invitation and provide supporting documents.
  3. Based on each application, the consular officer will decide whether or not to issue a visa.
  4. Suppose the Duration of Each Visit is not marked as 30. In that case, the holder of a category Z visa must apply for a residence permit from local security authorities within 30 calendar days of entering China.

China offers work opportunities for international students.

International students can now stay in China thanks to the new work regulations that apply to foreign graduates and holders of foreign degree certificates. This is China’s latest strategy to promote itself as a study destination and attract talented people to help it globalize its workforce.

The Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security, Foreign Affairs, and Education announced new regulations on January 6.
